WELCOME TO CIVICS - CHV2O Grade 10 Open
Welcome to Civics - I look forward to working with the Grade 10 students this year. Civics in a .5 credit course/half semester compulsory course within the Ontario Curriculum Canadian and World Studies area.
This course explores what it means to be an informed, participating citizen in democratic socieity. Students will learn about the elements of democracy with local, national and global contexts, about political reactions to social change, and about the political decision-making processes.in Canada. They will explore their own and other's ideas about civic questions and learn how to think critically about public issues and react responsibly to them. Students will focus on what the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in a demoncratic society.

STRATEGIES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS:
Students are expected to consistently apply independent learning skills focussing on self management, homework completion, independent daily review and study and class participation and attendance. Effective application of these learning skills will ensure student success and preparation for continued advanced study In Academic Language Arts.
Please note that cell phones are not permitted in class, Students are expected to arrive to class with their course binder and pens/pencils, their required texts, and positive attitude and willingness to learn.
